Frequently Asked Questions

This page collects the questions we hear most often about Opcus, from how the timer works to what happens to your data. If your question is not answered here, email us at support@opcus.co and we will usually reply within 24 to 48 hours.

Getting started

What is Opcus?
Opcus is a focus timer and lightweight productivity workspace. At its heart is a Pomodoro-style timer that alternates focused work with short breaks. Around it, you can add tasks, plan your day, organise projects on Kanban boards, focus together with others in Study Jams and review your progress with session history and analytics. It runs in the browser at www.opcus.co and as an Android app, and the interface is available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish and French.
Do I need an account to use the timer?
No. The focus timer works in guest mode without signing up. Open the site, choose a preset or set your own durations and press start. In guest mode, your settings and data are stored in your browser's localStorage rather than on our servers. That keeps things private and simple, but it also means the data belongs to that one browser: clearing site data or switching devices will start you from scratch.
What does a free account add?
An account unlocks the workspace features: tasks with colors, icons and target session counts, a daily planner and checklist, personal Kanban boards, Study Jams, session history with analytics, a weekly review and streaks, and saved focus routines. Because account data is stored on our servers, it follows you across devices and browsers. Creating an account requires an email address and password, and you will be asked to verify your email.
Is Opcus free?
Yes. Right now, every web feature is free to use while we prepare our paid plans. Opcus will offer three plans: Free, Plus and Pro. Free requires no payment, and Plus and Pro will be optional subscriptions that support development and remove ads. We will clearly show prices and what each plan includes before anyone is asked to pay.
Which languages does Opcus support?
The Opcus interface is available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish and French. You can switch language from the settings, and if you have an account, your choice is saved to your profile so it applies wherever you sign in. Some content pages, such as our long-form guides, may currently be available in fewer languages than the app itself.

Timer and techniques

Which timer presets are available?
Opcus includes three presets. Classic uses 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute short breaks and a 15-minute long break, the traditional Pomodoro rhythm. Deep work uses 50/10/20 for tasks that need longer stretches of concentration, such as programming or writing. Quick start uses 15/3/10 and is useful when you are struggling to begin or have limited time. You can also set custom durations for focus, short breaks and long breaks.
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time-management method in which you work in focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks, with a longer break after several intervals. The fixed time box makes it easier to start, discourages multitasking and builds regular rest into your day. It is a starting point rather than a rule: many people find that longer or shorter intervals suit their work better, which is why Opcus offers several presets and custom durations.
How do I choose the right session length?
Start with Classic (25/5/15) for a few days and notice where your attention fades. If you are regularly interrupted by the timer just as you hit your stride, try Deep work (50/10/20). If even 25 minutes feels hard to commit to, Quick start (15/3/10) lowers the barrier. Your session history can help: if you often stop sessions early, a shorter length may serve you better.
What are clean mode, focus music and custom backgrounds?
They are options for shaping your environment. Clean mode hides everything on screen except the timer, which helps when even a task list feels distracting. Ambient focus music provides background sound to mask noise and signal that it is time to work. Custom backgrounds let you choose the visual atmosphere of your workspace. You can also switch between dark and light themes. All of these are optional and can be turned on or off at any time.
What is the countdown widget?
The countdown widget shows the time remaining until a date that matters to you, such as an exam, a deadline or a launch. Keeping that date visible next to your timer can make the purpose of today's sessions more concrete. It is optional, and you can hide it whenever you prefer a simpler screen.
What are saved focus routines?
A focus routine is a timer setup you use repeatedly, saved so you can start it again in one step. For example, you might keep a deep-work routine for morning coding and a shorter routine for evening revision. Routines save you from re-entering durations each time and make it easier to build consistent habits. Saving routines requires an account.

Account and data

What data does Opcus store about me?
In guest mode, your data stays in your browser's localStorage. If you create an account, we store your name, email address, a hashed version of your password (never the password itself), your tasks, boards, the duration and timestamps of your focus sessions, and preferences such as language, theme and timer settings. We use this to provide the service. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail what we collect, why and for how long.
Will my guest data move to my account when I sign up?
Guest data and account data are stored in different places: guest data lives only in your browser, while account data is stored on our servers. You should not assume that everything you did as a guest will appear in your account. If keeping a particular history matters to you, check your account after signing up, and contact support@opcus.co if anything looks wrong.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Use the password reset option on the sign-in screen and enter the email address you registered with. We will send you a link to set a new password. If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or promotions folder and make sure you typed the address correctly. If you still cannot get in, write to support@opcus.co from the email address associated with your account.
How do I delete my account and data?
You can delete your account from your profile settings. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated data such as tasks, boards and session history, subject to limited retention described in our Privacy Policy, for example where we are legally required to keep certain records. You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing support@opcus.co from the address linked to it. Guest data can be removed at any time by clearing your browser's site data for opcus.co.
Does Opcus sell my data?
No. We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers that help us run Opcus, such as hosting, error monitoring, analytics and payment processing, and only as needed for those purposes. Ad spaces on content pages currently show only our own promotions for Opcus features, which use no advertising cookies. If we ever add a third-party ad network, it may use cookies as described in our Privacy Policy, and in regions where consent is required, you can choose whether to allow personalised ads.

Plans and ads

What is the difference between Free, Plus and Pro?
Free is the core Opcus experience, with no payment required. Plus and Pro are optional paid plans that support development and remove ads entirely. While we prepare the paid plans, every web feature is free. When billing goes live, we will publish the exact features and prices of each plan before anyone is charged, so you can decide whether an upgrade is worth it for you.
How are payments processed?
When billing is switched on, payments on the web will be processed by Stripe and payments in the Android app by Google Play, with subscriptions managed through RevenueCat. Opcus never sees or stores your full card number. Cancellation and refund requests for purchases made through Google Play are handled according to Google Play's policies, and web purchases are subject to the terms shown at checkout.
Where will I see ads?
Visitors and Free members may see ads on content pages, such as our guides and articles. These are currently our own promotions for Opcus features, such as Plus or Study Jams. Ads are never shown on the timer or other app and tool screens, and never during a running focus session. Plus and Pro members see no ads at all. We chose this approach so that advertising helps pay for Opcus without getting in the way of the work you came to do.
How can I control personalised ads?
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent through Google's certified consent management platform, and you can change your choice at any time with the Privacy choices link in the site footer. Wherever you are, you can manage how Google personalises ads at adssettings.google.com. Google explains how it uses data from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Study Jams and apps

What is a Study Jam?
A Study Jam is a shared co-focus room. Each participant runs their own timer, and the room shows live who is focusing, who is on a break and how long each person has worked. Many groups agree on a preset and press start together. It recreates the feeling of working next to someone in a library or café: you do not need to talk, but knowing others are working too makes it easier to stay on task. Study Jams are useful for classmates revising together, remote teams and accountability partners.
How do I create or join a Study Jam?
Sign in, open Study Jams and create a room. Opcus gives the room an invite link that you can share with the people you want to invite; up to eight people can join, and they need to be signed in. When the host ends the jam, everyone sees the results: focus minutes and Pomodoros per person. Only share the link with people you want in the room, and please be respectful to other participants; our Terms of Service describe the conduct we expect. You can report a problem with a Study Jam by emailing support@opcus.co.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes, Opcus is available as an Android app. On other devices, including iPhones, iPads and desktop computers, you can use Opcus in any modern web browser at www.opcus.co. If you use an account, your tasks, boards and session history are stored on our servers and are available on every device where you sign in.
How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?
Email support@opcus.co with a short description of what happened, what you expected, and, if possible, the browser or device you were using. Screenshots are very helpful. We also use automated error monitoring to catch technical problems, but a direct report is often the fastest way for us to understand and fix an issue. We read every suggestion, even if we cannot build all of them.
