About Opcus

Last updated

Opcus is a focus timer and lightweight productivity workspace. You can open www.opcus.co, press start and be in a focus session within a few seconds, with no account, no onboarding flow and no pop-ups standing between you and the work you sat down to do. When you want more structure, a free account adds tasks, a daily planner, Kanban boards, shared focus rooms and a history of your sessions.

This page explains why we built Opcus, the principles that shape it, what you can do with it, who it is for, how it is paid for and how we approach the guides published on this site.

Why Opcus exists

Most of us do not struggle to find a timer. We struggle with everything that comes with it: sign-up walls before the first session, cluttered dashboards, notifications that pull us back to our phones and apps that seem more interested in our attention than in helping us spend it well. A focus tool that becomes another source of distraction defeats its own purpose.

Opcus started from a simple idea: the fastest path from intention to focused work should be one click. The timer works the moment the page loads, and guest data stays in your own browser. Everything beyond that, such as planning, tracking and studying with others, is there when you need it and out of the way when you do not.

The principles we build by

A few rules guide every decision we make about the product. They are not slogans; they are constraints we check new features against.

  • No friction to start. The focus timer works in guest mode without an account, and guest data is kept in your browser's localStorage rather than on our servers.
  • Respect for privacy. We collect what an account needs to work and little else. Analytics and advertising cookies are subject to consent where the law requires it, and you can delete your account and its data at any time.
  • Works in guest mode with minimal dependencies. Once the page has loaded, the timer runs locally in your browser, so a brief connection drop does not stop a session.
  • No dark patterns. No fake countdowns, no guilt-trip messages, no hidden cancellation steps and no features held hostage to push an upgrade.
  • Ads never interrupt focus. Advertising appears only on content pages such as our guides, never on the timer or other app screens, and never during a running focus session.

What you can do with Opcus

At its core, Opcus is a Pomodoro timer. You can pick from ready-made presets, including Classic (25 minutes of focus, 5-minute short breaks and a 15-minute long break), Deep work (50/10/20) and Quick start (15/3/10), or set your own durations. Ambient focus music, custom backgrounds, a clean mode that hides everything except the timer, and dark and light themes let you shape the environment to suit the way you work.

With a free account, the timer becomes part of a small workspace. You can create tasks with colors, icons and a target number of sessions, then start a session directly against a task so your time is attributed to it. A daily planner and checklist help you decide what today is actually for, and personal Kanban boards give longer projects a visual home. A countdown widget keeps an important date in view.

Session history and analytics show where your focused time went, with a weekly review and streaks that reward consistency rather than marathon days. Saved focus routines let you store a setup you use often, such as a morning writing block or an evening revision session, and start it again in one step.

Study Jams are shared co-focus rooms. One person creates a room and shares its invite link; up to eight people can join, and the room shows live who is focusing, who is on a break and how long everyone has worked. It is the online version of studying in a library next to a friend: no conversation required, just the quiet accountability of knowing someone else is working too.

Opcus runs in the browser at www.opcus.co and is also available as an Android app. The interface is available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish and French.

Who it is for

Opcus is used by people whose work depends on long stretches of concentration. Students use it to break revision into manageable blocks and to study alongside classmates in Study Jams. Developers use deep-work presets to protect time for problems that need sustained attention. Remote workers use it to give an unstructured day some shape and to keep a clear line between work and breaks. Writers use it to show up for the page consistently, one session at a time.

You do not need to follow any particular productivity system to benefit from it. If you only ever use the guest timer, that is a perfectly good way to use Opcus.

How Opcus is funded

Building and running a service costs money, and we would rather be open about how we cover it. Opcus has three plans: Free, Plus and Pro. While the paid plans are being prepared, all web features are free to use. When billing is switched on, Plus and Pro will be optional subscriptions that support development and remove ads entirely. Payments will be handled by Stripe on the web and by Google Play on Android, through RevenueCat, and Opcus never sees your full card number.

Visitors and Free members may see ads on content pages such as our guides: currently only our own promotions for Opcus features. We have deliberately kept ads off the timer and the app itself, because an ad in the middle of a focus session would contradict the reason Opcus exists.

Our approach to guides

Alongside the app, we publish guides on focus, study habits, time management and getting more out of techniques such as the Pomodoro method. They are written to be practical: each one should leave you with something you can try in your next session, not just general encouragement.

We review guides and update them when the product changes or when we find a clearer way to explain something, and each guide shows the date it was last updated. Our guides are general information about productivity and study habits. They are not medical, psychological or professional advice. If you are dealing with persistent difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, anxiety or a condition such as ADHD, please talk to a qualified professional.
